Desi (noun, from Sanskrit, देश deśa, country)
a. belonging to region, province or country
Grub (noun, Middle English grubben)
a. Slang for food
b. food usable by people
In the ancient eastern liturgical language, Sanskrit, “desi” means from/of the country and in modern western urban colloquial English “grub” means food. DesiGrub is collection stories of our shared adventures with food from countries around the world.
“DesiGrub” first started as a namesake website that was a play on the word “desh” from the last half of the founder’s first name. Gradually, “desh” evolved to “desi”, which just sounded better with grub. Thus, DesiGrub is not just about Indian food but food in general.
